Melmerby is a hamlet situated in Coverdale
in the Yorkshire Dales, roughly four and a half miles SSW of Leyburn.
The village stands on a sloping plateau between 250 and 290 metres
above sea level. South of the village, the ground drops away to the
river Cover, while to the north, the ground climbs over Melmerby Moor
to the bulk of Pen Hill (520 metres above sea level). There is a bed and breakfast farmhouse with two holiday cottages
