have appraisal schemes; the objectives of appraisal; characteristics
of effective appraisals; the three-stage appraisal process.

The differences between the ‘Qualities’ and ‘Results’
based approach.

Different types of objectives and the importance of, and how to
agree, SMART objectives.

Defining Key Result Areas and Objectives.
|
|
Why potential should be assessed and the indicators used for
assessing potential.

Problems that can be met when carrying out an appraisal.
|
|
The Team Leader’s role in identifying training and
development needs.

Understanding the organization's
appraisal documentation and procedure.

Planning and structuring an appraisal discussion.
|
|
Appraisal discussion style, establishing rapport, non-verbal
communication, controlling the discussion, summarizing,
asking questions, listening, giving feedback on performance, solving
problems, techniques for ‘special cases’, closing the appraisal
with agreed action plans.

Follow up on the appraisal discussion to link the process to
the day to day management of a Team Member.

Workshop
outcomes:
At the end of the workshop
participants will be able to describe the key criteria necessary to carry
out effective appraisals and implement these criteria in such a way that
both the short and long term objectives of employee and employer are
achieved.
Duration:
One or two days depending on
the length of skills practice.
