This practical workshop provides the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to be effective as a coach in the workplace situation.  It is especially useful for newly appointed Self Managed and Quality Improvement Team Leaders.

Workshop content:

How good a coach are you?: self analysis.
Coaching: the process whereby a Team Leader discusses some aspect of work with one of his/her people in order to help the person being coached to enhance his/her effectiveness in the organization.
Deciding when it is appropriate to coach.
The difference between coaching and counseling.
Understanding how coaching affects learning.

The characteristics of good coaches.
Coaching skills questionnaire.
Different ways of developing people.
A coaching structure: Introduction, Getting Agreement, Generating Options, Getting Commitment, Closing.
Rules for good questioning.
Rules for good listening.
Preparing, conducting and analyzing the outcomes of a coaching discussion.

Workshop outcomes:

At the end of the workshop participants will: appreciate and understand the importance of coaching as a skill to develop and improve people; have practiced and developed coaching skills; be able to coach; have produced an individual plan for transferring the skills to the workplace.
