Results from the Essex
County Epee and Sabre Championships
Held on Sunday 26/11/00 at Chelmsford
| Another Competition comes and
goes , Hopefully everyone enjoyed the day .It was
a pity we couldn't get two rounds of Poules in
this year - But very good attendance of 41 for
Epee and 12 for Sabre mean't we had little choice
but to cut out a round - hopefully back to two
next year Lyndon's

Mens Epee
Did anyone miss - Simon Laight -
Certainly not Matt Sellick - at last he holds the Men's
Essex Champion's title beating Edward Coultrop in the
final 15-9 .

The Semi Finalist and Bronze medal
winners were Peter Brackin and Simon Thompson
Highlight of the last eight was the battle of the
Brackins didn't see much brotherly love as Peter and
Stephen battled it out competively - with Peter's
experience finally taking its toll on Stephen
| In the last 16 of the DE
, Philip Funnel from Hornchurch gave Matt a
really hard fight with Philip at one stage
leading Matt by 6 points but our Essex Captain
managed to pull it round before the end . In the
last 32 there was only one fight that went
against the seeding with Alan Jones ( that's me )
beating ranked ninth John Hayes |
The Epee had their usual
plate competition with 12 first round losers competing in
two poules -with the Poule winners Christine Brackin and
Brian Lovell contesting the final - where Christine
revered her performance in the Main competition and got
back into her winning ways by beating Brian and taking
home the bottle of wine -Thanks David for organising it

Ladies Epee
It was great that we were able to get enough lady
Epeeist out so that they could have their own Competition with
all fencers fighting each other (Without having those nasty men
to beat )
In the girls poule the only real surprise was the
performance of Christine ( Essex 2000 Foil Champion) - who could
only manage three victories
Sandra (9 out of 9), Joanne (only lost to Sandra ) Sara (6 vict),
Karen and Alex ( 5 vict each ) Jo (4 vict), Christine (3 Vict ),
Zoe (2 Vict ) and AnneMarie and Heather with One victory each .
No surprises in the DE where Sandra
Joanne,Alex and Sara all progressed through to the medal
positions
In the Semis - special mention to Sara Green (only 13 ) already
Essex Junior Foil Champion who managed nine hits on Joanne in the
Semi Finals and Alex who got 5 on Sandra not a mean feat either -
Alex and Sara ending up with Bronze Medals
The final - Sandra versus Joanne and was a very
close fight with both being in the lead at some stage in the bout
but in the end Sandra took the Champions tiltle winning 15-12

Sabre Results 
After One round of Poules we had a full DE of all
fencers - Champion again for 2000 is Chris Sullivan - after
convincing victories in all his fights and no losses . But credit
to the main Sabre Clubs of Chelmsford ,Cads and Essex University
who provided all but one of the fencers Chas keeping the south of
the county represented
In the poules
Of the Men - Chris Sullivan and Richard Simms
both completed a clean sweep with 5 victories each,Chas and Sam
Murray Finished with 4 victories, William Thomas with 3
Victories, - Don Cook, David Bird, Ben Trotter with 2 victories,
Nathan managed one , whilst Richard Cross ended with none.
The two Ladies - Lesley Clarke No victories but Kim Mason ended
with a Creditable two victories.
In the DE - All went the way of the seeding with
Ben , Lesley, Richard Cross being knocked out in the first round
, only upset was Nathan beating Don Cook narrowly 15-13
In the last Eight - David, William , Kim and Nathan lost out on
the medal placings being beaten by Chris Sullivan,Chas, Sam
Murray amd Richard Simms respectively
In the Semi Finals Chris showed his supremacy against Chas
winning 15-5 and Richard just overcome Sam Murray 15-13
In the All Chelmsford Final - Chris did not have
it all his own way early against Richard but in the end run out
winning 15-10
