CADS Celebrate a Silver Jubilee

On the 19th August current and past members of Colchester & District Fencing Club attended a barbeque to celebrate the club’s 25th year. The celebration was a great success and it was also attended by fencers from Ipswich, Wickford, Chelmsford, University of Essex, Norfolk and Southend fencing clubs.

During the evening the Club made awards to four members who spanned 25 years at the club. The first went to Norman Golding, the club’s first coach, who saw the club move from an evening class to a club and was instrumental in starting the Essex Open run by the Club. The second award was to John Ramsay who was Chairman of CADS for at least 10 years and continued the development of the Essex Open into the competition it is today. The last award was to Alan Dann who is a current member of the Club and one of its coaches. Alan represents what a good club member is in the way he supports the Club, arranges social events and helps on club nights. The last award was to Lyndon Taylor for all his help at the Club, not least the production of the club’s newsletter, from where this report was extracted.

Congratulations CADS from all fencers in the region and best wishes for the next 25 years.
