| In Memory |
| As many of you will be aware during the
last twelve months Eastern Region fencing has lost two of
its stalwarts, Anita Bales and George Cullen. |
| Anita, the wife of Bob Bales, was a
foilist at CADS and an enthusiastic member of fencing
committees. She was also a great supporter and helper at
fencing competitions and is particularly remembered by
fencers and spectators alike for her catering at the
Essex Open. |
| George was the Region’s Press and
Publicity Officer, a post he carried out with great
enthusiasm and success. In his time in office he raised
the profile of fencing in the local media to a new level.
He was also active in promoting fencing through local
clubs, particularly at Harwich and Dovercourt and at CADS. |
| In their memory, the Region has
inaugurated two cups, The Anita Bales Cup for the
Champion Club and the George Cullen Cup for Mens
Individual Sabre. These cups will be presented for the
first time this season. |
