Eastern Region Intermediate Foil Championship

Once again Chelmsford was the venue for one of the areas championships, The eastern Region Intermediate Foil Championships.

As with such event an entry was received from most of the Regions club, with a sizeable entry from the clubs of Essex. Going into the direct elimination rounds Martin Cott was number 1 seed followed by Mark Blyth, both of Great Yarmouth with Robin Parks (Bury St Edmunds) 3rd and 4th Ryan Marsden also of Great Yarmouth.

By the semi-finals parks and Marsden had fallen by the wayside leaving Blyth to meet Andrew Docherty (U/A) which was to see Docherty the victor with the closest of scores 13 - 12. While in the other semi-final Cott was drawn against Chelmsford's Richard Simms. In this meeting the Essex fencer was to make all the running to go into the final on a score of 15 - 8.

The final lived up to expectations with both fencers closely matched. Hit were traded with Simms being this years champion winning by the narrowest of margins 15 - 14.

The ladies championships progressed in much the same way seeing Georgina Osborne of the Norfolk club Affondo first with Tracey Coates (Huntingdon) 2nd and joint 3rd to Southend's Christine Brackin and Norfolk's Margaret Warner.

Colchester Sports Council recently held a seminar at the Highwoods Sport and Leisure Centre on Lottery Awards. Centre Manager Kimberly Newman opened the meeting by introducing Alison Furlong, Community Sports Centre Manager who addressed invited clubs from the centre, including Colchester and District Fencing Club (CADS) on the purpose of the awards and how application should be made. The meeting concluded with a questions and answers session.
