The Alexander III Memorial This Victorian memorial marks the spot where Scotland's last Celtic king fell to his death in 1286. Alexander's death marked the start of a long period of disruption in Scotland, culminating in the Wars of Independence. Alexander fell to his death in a storm that plagued his journey to Kinghorn Castle, where his new bride awaited him. The green garbed apparition of Yolande, his bride, may still be seen near this spot, searching for her missing Alexander.
