ABOUT LOUGH CUAN
- Lough Cuan... the most ancient name of Strangford
Lough. The Vikings called it The Strang Fjord which eventually became
Strangford. We have taken the liberty of calling ourselves Lough Cuan Bowmen to reflect
the ancient past when men defended themselves with the Bow and Arrow.
The Club Badge reflects the history, wildlife, flora and sport together with a nasty accident
which happened to Mr O'Neill.
- Lough Cuan Bowmen are open to all Peoples who have a common interest in
Archery regardless of Race, Colour or Creed.
- The Club meets every Monday night at the Lansdown Road Rugby Club,
Newtownards at 7.30 PM.. All Visitors Welcome. New members have the
opportunity of training with Bowmen who are of National and International Standard.
The Club is Field Archery orientated but we are
happy to share our facilities with the Target Archer Fraternity on a 50/50 equal basis.
- The Club is affiliated to the NIAS, GNAS and FITA. We are also affiliated to IFAF
Irish Field Archery Federation and to IFAF INTERNATIONAL FIELD ARCHERY
ASSOCIATION This gives us the opportunity to represent Ulster,
Ireland and/or Great Britain in any events we desire to enter.
- 2001 Northern Ireland will be hosting the British Field Championships providing the
Foot and Mouth problem is solved by then. In any event we feel that everyone
attending should submit their vehicles for decontamination and all footwear should
also be treated. As responsible Archers we believe in taking every precaution to
prevent any possibility of spreading this disease
and we will be acting strictly under the advisement of the MAFF Veterinary Officer
