The Group is comprised of a committee, members and associates,
each committee member having a clearly defined role. A few of the roles
undertaken by committee members and some ordinary
members are outlined below.
The Host
The role of the host is to welcome new members to the group and
to give information and advice to new associates wishing to take
the advanced driving test.
Don't feel intimidated if you wish to attend a meeting for the first
time, seek out the host (his/her position will be clearly indicated).
The Observers
All observers have passed the IAM test and are
volunteers who give their time for no reward, other than the satisfaction
of seeing their associate pass the IAM test and become an advanced
driver.
By submitting yourself for IAM testing, you are
in all probability of a pretty good standard already, requiring
more attention to fine detail rather than full training. observers
assess your driving and then guide you towards the IAM test standard.
They would not presume to instruct you, but rather to offer you
the benefit of their own experiences.
A senior observer will accompany you on a special guidance
run when your usual observer feels that you have attained test standard.
Chief Observer
Overall purpose of the post is to oversee all observer and associate training.
Main duties and responsibilities are to develop
an observer training strategy for the group in conjunction with
the senior observers. This includes organising
observer training days, and checking national
and group guidelines are being adhered to by observers.
The Group Shop Controller
Responsible for the running
of the group shop, which carries a range of driving related merchandise
and is available at the monthly meetings.
Newsletter Editor
The editor is responsible for producing the quarterly
group newsletter. The newsletter contains group and IAM House information
together with articles of interest to the Group and its members.
Full details of meetings, together with any guest speakers, and special events are also included.
