ACADEMY TIMETABLE

All the boys have a very hectic timetable and must show great personal discipline in order to combine a heavy academic load with an intensive and demanding basketball schedule. To give a flavour of this, Lee Goldsbrough's basketball schedule is shown below:

Monday Individual Coaching 7:00am - 8:15am
  Team/Individual Loreto Coaching 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Game for Loreto at ABC Evening

Tuesday Under 18 Magic Team Practice 6:30pm - 8:20pm
  Div 3 Magic Team Practice 8:30pm - 10:00pm

Wednesday Individual Coaching 7:00am - 8:15am
  Under 18 Magic Team Practice 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Thursday Team/Individual Loreto Coaching 12noon - 2:00pm
  Under 18 Magic Team Practice 6:30pm - 8:20pm
  Div 3 Magic Team Practice 8:30pm - 10:00pm

Friday Day off to recuperate

Saturday/Sunday On most weekends, Lee will play a Junior Magic Under 18 and a Div 3 game. If only one game is scheduled, extra practice will be substituted, often individual work.

In addition, the players have free passes to the gym at ABC and their strength and conditionaing work is scheduled around their basketball and academic schedules.

The whole package is extremely intense and designed to prepare players for a full-time basketball career, whilst, at the same time, giving priority to academic qualifications which they may need for their future careers.

LORETO MAGIC BASKETBALL ACADEMY STARTS

2008/09 is the first year of the Academy. It is a partnership between the prestigious Loreto Sixth Form College in Manchester with the Manchester Magic, the highly successful basketball Club which operates from the Amaechi Basketball Centre.

The partnership will enable the selected boys to have daily practices, plus access to gym programmes suitable for their needs. Most of the players, as well as representing Loreto, will play for the Magic at weekends. Some of the first year intake are expected to play Division 3 Men's basketball and may even make sufficient progress to play for Magic 1.

As well as aspiring to excel academically, the Academy is designed to better prepare youngsters for a career as a professional basketball player. Currently, most youngsters move abroad to achieve this, but we hope that, in the long term, English basketball will mature sufficiently to allow players to remain in the UK and fulfil their basketball aspirations here.

Tosan Adeogun
Tosan is one of four students to join us from St Peter's HS. He has limited experience in playing basketball, but has all the physical tools to succeed. He is working very hard to improve his skills and, as the season progresses, he is expected to make a big contribution to the team.

Lee Goldsbrough
Lee has joined us from the North East after glowing reports of his basketball last season. He is now living in the Club House and learning to cook, wash and clean for himself. A very talented player physically, Lee will have to work extremely hard to increase his skill levels to make himself a dominant player for Loreto.

Lee is also representing Manchester Magic at Under 18 and Division 3 Senior levels. If he progresses well, he may make his full Magic debut this season. His ambition is to play professionally, either in the USA or Europe.

Trace Leahong
Trace is another product of St Peter's, with ambitions to go as far as he can in basketball. He has represented St Peter's for a number of years and made a big contribution to his School's success.

Sam Olayemi
Sam is yet another player from St Peter's who has been an excellent player for Manchester Magic for a number of years. He can play both point guard and shooting guard and has a toughness about him which will be of great benefit to Loreto. His long term ambition is to go to the USA to play at the highest level over there.

Tosin Orekoya
Tosin is a late addition to the squad, after excelling at the trials. He will have to make a lot of progress with his skills in order to make a contribution, but , with a great attitude, we expect him to do this.

Ben Spence
Ben joined Manchester Magic 12 months ago when he was selected in the 2007 Summer Trials. Although he comes from Warrington, he decided to move into Manchester to give himself the best chance of succeeding. He joins Lee Goldsbrough in the Club House and is therefore able to practise at the Basketball Centre on a daily basis. Although he is inexperienced, he has made terrific progress in the last year and has a great motivation to do well. His ambition is to represent his country at some stage of his career.

Chae Taylor Bell
Chae has been with the Magic for a number of years and is one of the most improved players at Manchester. He has developed well physically in the last couple of years which enables him to play a physical game to add to his shooting prowess. After leaving Loreto, his dream is to play in the USA .

Kaphel Ulett-Waul
Kaphel has always played point guard at the Magic . He has made outstanding progress in the last couple of years and is now a polished performer. He will make a massive contribution at Loreto due to his outstanding skills and great attitude. He wants to go as far as possible in the game, hoping that a professional basketball career will ensue. He completes the quartet of St Peter's players.
