Westend play some great football in the
mud at Macclesfield
TYTHERINGTON 2
WESTEND UNITED 4
(Mid Cheshire League Div 3 Under 12’s)
Westends latest game was away against Tytherington on a soggy pitch that turned into mud pie after a couple of heavy sleet showers.
Tytherington kick off the match with Westend gaining possession early on. Westend had most of the play in the first half with Alex Mason and Ashley Goodwin up front and Mason had a couple of attempts one well saved and the other went into the side netting. The midfield of Sam Marshall, Kit Ambage, Harry Higate and Jack Carroll were winning all the loose balls. Oliver Gifford came on in place of Higate. Westend were caught by a break from Tytherington who put a good cross in and their forward scored. Westend restarted the game and pressed forward to win a number of corners and see forward runs from Goodwin, Mason and Marshall. From a move started from great battling by Ambage who sent Marshall on his way only to see his shot go wide of the post. From the goalkick Westend got a throw in that went to Scott Sapsford who put a good ball into Marshall who was denied by the goalkeeper but he only parried it to Goodwin who levelled the scores neatly. Tytherington restarted the game but Westend came forward again forcing a corner that Darren Roberts took, the ball coming out to Gifford and his shot curled over the keeper and into the top left corner for Westend to take the lead. Tytherington kicked off and got a ball forward that Robin Evans gathered comfortably. Tytherington won a corner that was well struck but it went straight across the goal and out of danger. Tytherington press again and after some tidy footwork to skip past a number of Westend players a cross came in that Dean Morgan went to clear only to have it cruelly deflected back in and past Evans to level the scores again. At half time the score was still 2 - 2.
Westend started the second half and they had the wind in their favour. Higate swapped with Goodwin. Westend again had control in midfield and the defence of Sapsford, Philip Roney, Roberts and Morgan looked composed and untroubled when Tytherington came forward. A move started in defence by Roberts who lofted a ball to Mason who laid it off to Marshall who shimmied past one player into the middle of the box to place a sweet shot past the keeper to give Westend the lead again. Westend apply yet more pressure and the Tytherington keeper was having a tremendous game making several excellent saves. Nick Tabbinnor came on for Carroll and immediately got a good cross in but it was defended. Higate and Ambage both had shots that were either saved or went wide. Mason made way for Goodwin. Tytherington had another attempt well saved by Evans. Westend had the game under control when they were awarded a penalty for handball and Marshall stepped up to take it and the keeper nearly got it but because it was so well struck it ran under his body and in to make it 2-4. Matthew Blood came on for Evans and he is called on to make a couple of saves. Westend produced some great football with all playing as a team and at the final whistle Westend had increased their run of games undefeated to ten by winning 2 - 4.
The man of the match was Kit Ambage for his performance in midfield showing his ability to send the ball forward to produce many goal-scoring opportunities.
