Westend in game they did not deserve to loose

SUTTON 4

WESTEND UNITED 2

(Mid Cheshire League Div 3 Under 12’s)

The second game of the season was away from home and it produced Westends best performance to date.

Westend started the game and immediately put Sutton under pressure on what was a very soggy pitch. Westend dominated the first half and after twenty five minutes Westend were awarded a free kick about twenty yards out. Alex Mason floated it in only to see it come out but only to Jack Carroll on the left. He struck a lovely ball in and it only needed the slightest of touches by Ashley Goodwin to redirect it in. The half continued in much the same way with the score 0-1 at the interval. Sutton started the second half and went straight on the offensive and scored from a well taken corner to level the game. After applying a lot of pressure Westend were caught by a break from Sutton who made it 2-1. Westend went back on the attack from the kick off with Harry Highgate having his shot come back off the cross bar. Westend were awarded a number of free kicks throughout the game due to over commitment from some of the Sutton players. Sutton defended well with nearly every attempt by Westend crowded out and blocked. Sutton went on the attack again and made it pay with a good goal taking the score to 3-1. Sutton were awarded a free kick just outside the box that went in over the top of Robin Evans. Westend took kick off and struck back immediately with a goal from Scott Sapsford. Westend did not give up but the final whistle came with the score 4-2. The lads played with great skill and should be proud of their efforts if understandably disappointed.

The man of the match was Elliot Burton for his efforts in midfield.

Team: - Ambage, Blood, Burton, Carroll, Cowburn, Evans, Gifford, Goodwin, Highgate, Mason, Roney and Sapsford.

The next match is at home against Northwich and players are asked to meet at the school at 9.45 am.
