Westend in game they did deserve to win
WESTEND UNITED 5
NORTHWICH 3
(Mid Cheshire League Div 3 Under 12’s)
The third game of the season was at home and it produced Westends first win of this campaign.
Westend started the game and were on the ball straight away and three minutes into the half they were one up from a lovely goal by Ashley Goodwin. Northwich responded immediately with a goal from the kick off. The game was an end to end spectacle with some great defending, midfield and forward work from both teams. With fifteen minutes gone Northwich had the ball and their player was forced into the right corner but somehow he managed to get a cross in and from what appeared to be an impossible angle he got the ball over Robin Evans and in the net at the back post. Five minutes later at the other end Westend were awarded a series of corners and one of these, taken by Jim Cowburn, came in to Scott Sapsford at the near post and he headed home sweetly to level the game at 2-2. The game continued in this thrilling way until the half time whistle. The game was restarted by Northwich and both teams were trying very hard but seven minutes into this half Northwich made the score 2-3. This did not seem to worry the lads and they worked even harder and this battling paid off with Scott Sapsfords determined efforts to feed Ashley Goodwin for his second goal that levelled the score. Scott was in the action again with a pinpoint ball through for Ashley to score his hatrick and give Westend the lead. The game was put beyond Northwich after Westend brought the ball from defence to Harry Highgate who showed great skill and composure to dribble past three defenders and then thread the ball to Scott Sapsford who scored his second. The final score was 5-3 to Westend United.
This week’s performance was one where the defence of Robin Evans, Alex Mason, Philip Roney and Jim Cowburn worked very hard with each member playing crucial parts in the result. The midfield of Jack Carroll, Elliot Burton, Kit Ambage, Harry Highgate, Oliver Gifford and Anthony Crossley backed this up with great determination, tackling and distribution; their link up play was a joy to watch. The forwards Scott Sapsford and Ashley Goodwin played brilliantly and scored some very good goals.
The man of the match was Oliver Gifford for his performance in midfield, defence and attack.
Team: - Ambage, Blood, Burton, Carroll, Cowburn, Crossley, Evans, Gifford, Goodwin, Highgate, Mason, Roney and Sapsford.
The next match is away against High Legh and players are asked to meet at the school at 9.00 am.
