Westend score ten against a side that
never lost heart
WESTEND UNITED 10
TARVIN 1
(Mid Cheshire League Div 3 Under 12’s)
Westend were at home on an overcast and cool Sunday morning playing their second game against the team at the foot of the league. Westend played very well and Tarvin did everything they could to keep them at bay.
Westend started the match and went immediately on to the attack and within a few minutes were a goal up after Jim Cowburn latched on to a pass from Kit Ambage. Westend won a corner after a good save to push the ball out by the Tarvin keeper. Cowburn whipped a good ball in that came out to Ambage who had a shot that reached Anthony Crossley who then placed the ball neatly between the Keeper and the right hand post. Tarvin ventured into the Westend half but the defence of Dean Morgan, Darren Roberts, Philip Roney and Scott Sapsford were able to clear the ball forward for another onslaught on the Tarvin goal. Sapsford linked up with Jack Carroll on the left to take the ball forward and Carroll crossed the ball in to Cowburn who fed the ball to Harry Higate for the third goal. There was a then long period where both defences were working efficiently and the midfield players were tackling well. Alex Mason came on for Cowburn and Nick Tabbinnor swapped with Crossley. Tarvin were soaking up a lot of pressure when Westend broke through forcing a corner which eventually came to Mason who thumped a fierce shot into the back of the net. Roney swapped with Cowburn. At half time the score was 4-0.
Tarvin started the second half and Westend carried on where they left off. Roney came back on in place of Ashley Goodwin and Crossley swapped with Carroll. The fifth goal came as a result of a corner coming out to Mason who hit home. Tarvin won a freekick but Robin Evans gathered nicely. Cowburn off and Goodwin back on. Westend increased their lead when Ambage got the ball in to Goodwin who after a goal line scramble put the ball in the net to make it 6-0. Westend continued to press with Ambage getting the ball to Goodwin for him to score his second. From the kick off Tarvin caught the Westend defence unawares and went through to deny Evans a clean sheet. Westend got another after a cross from Mason came to Gifford on the edge of the box and his shot went in. Sapsford went off and Cowburn came on. The ball was put through to Mason and he tops off his hattrick. Moments later Cowburn got his second with a long range effort. The final score was 10-1.
The man of the match was Scott Sapsford for his performance in defence with some excellent tackling and great passing.
