Westend not quite on form

WESTEND UNITED 3

TYTHERINGTON 6

(Mid Cheshire League Div 3 Under 12’s)

The fifth game of the season was at home and it produced Westends worst scoreline to date.

Tytherington started the game with Westend playing into the sun and a strong wind. Westend got off to a slow start with Robin Evans having to save well early on and the team having to defend. It was nearly ten minutes into the game before any headway was made with Ashley Goodwin receiving the ball from a throw in, he passed the ball back to Kit Ambage who then produced a great shot that went just over the bar. Tytherington went on the attack and scored. Westend did have the occasional period where the football was controlled and flowing and on one such occasion it nearly produced a goal only to see it cleared for a corner. Tytherington then forced another great save from Robin Evans. Westend pushed forward and the ball came through to Ashley Goodwin and with only the keeper to beat he shot and the keeper just touched it and the ball went wide by a whisker for a corner. Back at Westends goalmouth Jim Cowburn showed great coolness to clear whilst under pressure. Westend were level after twenty two minutes from a determined through run by Ashley Goodwin who drove the ball through the hands of the keeper. Westend continued to work hard but found it difficult to hold on to the ball with some players trying to dribble through the crowds and others passing the ball to imaginary teammates. Half an hour into the game and Westend were behind again after Tytherington caught Robin Evans off his line with a looping shot that could not be saved. One minute later Westend were subjected to an action replay that made the score 1-3. The rest of the half saw Westend press forward with Oliver Gifford having a shot saved and Kit Ambage continually tackling for the ball in midfield. The half time interval came with no change to the score. The second half saw Nick Tabbinor come on to make his debut for Westend. Tytherington were on the attack and what looked like a certain goal was saved on the line by the head of Philip Roney. Seven minutes into the second half Ashley Goodwin received a great through ball from Harry Higate and he slotted home nicely to make it 2-3. Tytherington continued to press forward and this was rewarded with a penalty when Alex Mason handled in the box. The penalty was taken and Robin Evans made a great effort to save it but it was too strong. Two minutes later Tytherington scored again to make it 2-5. By now it must have felt like a constant onslaught and Tytherington were awarded another penalty after Philip Roney in self-defence handled the ball on the line to prevent a goal. The penalty was taken and Robin Evans produced a good save. Matthew Blood came on in place of Robin Evans. Five minutes later Westend looked back in it when Ashley Goodwin got his hattrick but five minutes after that the game was put out reach when Tytherington scored again to make it 3-6. Westend tried to recover with shots from Scott Sapsford, Jack Carroll, Oliver Gifford and Jim Cowburn but to no avail.

The man of the match was Kit Ambage for his outstanding performance in midfield aiding the defence and supplying passes to the attack.

Team: - Ambage, Blood, Burton, Carroll, Cowburn, Crossley, Evans, Gifford, Goodwin, Higate, Mason, Roney, Sapsford and Tabbinor.
