The majority of the very many portraits that Heather has completed over the years have been of dogs, however, she has also painted a wide selection of other animals. When asked if she has a favourite subject she says that all the paintings are done on their own merit. However, she does concede that it is much easier to paint an animal who has character rather than one who is a bit of a wimp, as there is far more scope for bringing out the expression. When painting show animals she takes a good deal of trouble to establish with the owners exactly which the good points are from a judge's point of view. Even the stance adopted by the animal is of great importance in order to provide the appearance of a good "topline" etc. Most of her pictures are done on neutral coloured pastel paper without drawn backgrounds, however the provision of a suitable background, where appropriate, is not a problem - as can be seen with the jack russells opposite! This was very much "their" chair! Below is a Norfolk terrier "person" who insisted on being included too....
Not to be outdone!....in the face of Jack Russell opposition!
