21 June 2003
Blewbury Festival Street Market

About the FestivalNext Event

After the disappointing weather for the start of the Festival the sun shone for the street-market. The road through the Pound was closed to traffic and filled with stalls selling wonderful hats, embroidered cards and jewellery. The inspiration provided by the gardens open under the Yellow Book scheme meant there was a lot of interest in the Produce Association stall.

The Band alternated top billing, and shared the chairs, with the Punch and Judy show in the welcome shade of the trees on the Pound. We were next to the face painting stall, so we had a captive audience.

The chairs were wonderful. They encouraged people to stop and listen whilst they ate their ice-cream and rested their feet during a very sultry afternoon when the temperature reached the high 20s and the light was so bright that the original photographs of the afternoon were so highly coloured they dazzled - hence the retreat into sepia.
