14 December 2003

Use of the secret weapon at when collecting at Tesco was a great success. We have sent £206.18 to Sobell House. Many thanks to all those who turned out on the day.

13th December

Didcot has a traditional market twice a week, but in the past year or so many of the surrounding market towns have begun to have a Farmers Market one or two days a month. These special events allow producers to sell direct to the public, are popular and colourful and breathing new life into the old open markets. Thames Valley Farmers' Market Co-operative, which co-ordinates markets in Oxfordshire and Berkshire held its first of two test markets in Didcot on 11th October 2003 when the Band was playing at the Civic Hall. By some alchemy we were heard and invited to play for the Christmas Market on the 13th December.

We were given a prime position, shoehorned into a corner at the centre of the stalls, so you couldn't miss us and next to lovely food, lots of which found its way into players carrier bags during breaks in over two hours of Christmas Carols.

We are not going to claim all the credit, but it seems that the morning was a success, despite the horrible weather. Didcot Farmers' Market will become a regular fixture for the next year. The band should be playing for the market again in 2004.
