Welcome the Defender section of our web site. Defender In Scotland

The Defender as we all know still holds the looks from the Classic Land Rover that started more than 50 years ago. Here you will find some pictures of some old Land Rovers as well as some new Land Rovers.

New Defender To Come

However a replacement for the defender may have monocoque chassis sub-frames and "fake" ruggedness. A prototype was spotted by a visitor to the Solihull works who'd strayed off the tour and found himself looking at the concept Defender. "It look like and other 4x4 - something like a cross between Trooper and Shogun" said the man, who preferred to remain anonymous. "To my mind, it ditches all the aspects that make Defender great." And a factory worker told LRO that among off the shelf components used will be American Ford petrol engines and Isuzu diesels, independent suspension from Explorer and plastic bumpers from Maverick. The top section is one piece, preventing the roof being removed. "The idea, called the Paill Roof is all mixed up" said the Land Rover insider.

Land Rover press office said details would be made public early in April 2001 "At the moment we are being told nothing except the codename, which is 1.16.18.9.12.A.

Today

The Land Rover factory today has become the largest 4x4 factory in Europe, as the Rover cars are no longer made at Solihull. However as we all know the Range of vehicle has changed and Solihull has plenty of space to make the Defender, Discovery, Range Rover and Freelander.
