| The gastronomic offerings of Llanes
are wide and varied. This has much to do with its
geographical situation, the climate of the area and
tradition. Vegetables and vegetable stews are the most
characteristic of the area although the fish and seafood
are of a quality envied in other parts of Spain. |
The Fabada Asturiana is the most popular
dish. This is a stew prepared with white beans,
"pantruque" - which is made with cornflower,
bacon, persil and onion in equal quantities - egg, black
pudding, chorizo and pork belly. It goes without saying
that this dish is very rich in fats and proteins.
|
| Vegetable stew, potatoes with peas, green beans and
meat are taken to fiestas by great multitudes. Also
cornflower cakes with fried egg and chorizo or tomato. |
| In any part of the municipality, it is possible to
eat all sorts of fish and seafood such as hake (griddled,
in vegetable sauce, in cider), grouper, monkfish, sea
bream, griddled sardines or the delicious rolled tuna. |
Of shellfish the most notable are barnacles,
edible crab, spider crab, prawns and lobster without
forgetting other products of the sea such as octopus,
squid, mussels, clams, cockles and the deservedly
renowned anchovies from Llanes.
|
Typical
desserts are rice pudding, apple and almond tarts, and
the famous ice cream "Peñasanta" which is both
cold and hot.
|
It
should not be forgotten that the municipality is
represented by a great number of cheeses such as Vidiago,
Porrua, Pría, Los Carriles, and Caldueñín.
