The first edition of this weekly newspaper was 21st March 1868. In 1920 Antonio Maya Pérez became director and editor and maintained the newspaper during 43 years. When Antonio passed away in 1963, one of his sons, Manual Maya Conde, took over and has kept the Llaniscan press alive for over a century and a quarter. The small editorial team publishes books on art, travel, and history of the area. It covers five municipalities in eastern Asturias: Llanes, Cabrales, Peñamellera Alta, Peñamellera Baja y Ribadedeva. Articles cover social events, exhibitions, what's on, weddings, births and all other subjects of interest to the local population and also to the emigrants now living in places such as Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, and Argentina, and various European countries such as England, France, Suitzerland and Austria.
