Objectives

7th August 1999

It was probably our daughter importuning for a "gap year" after college (she didn't get one) that got us thinking that maybe we should do just that.     We had a business that over the years had been very kind to us but was no longer truly viable and would need much commitment from us over the next years for not so much return.    We had the sense to provide ourselves a pension in the better times but it made no sense to take it sooner than we needed to.     So we faced a choice get ourselves jobs for the next few years or figure some way of living inexpensively and and indulge some of our pipe dreams.    Over the years we have had many holidays in the in the UK and further afield but frequently had to interrupt them for business or family reasons and like many we longed for a long break in which we could do what we want, unhurried and uninterrupted.    We had many times promised that we would learn to speak French properly and play something musical.     We also think we should have a go a writing.    It is said that their is a novel inside each of us and we have picked up so many anecdotes and characters over the years that we ought to string them together with a bit fiction just for fun.

As a more serious matter we plan to write our autobiography not because we have anything special to say - we are very ordinary but because with the the passing of old and loved relatives we realise just how little we new about them and we hope that far into the future some of our descendants might treasure them.

We came to caravanning late in life - Kate is really a five star person.     We bought a old one as a support vehicle for Kart racing and found it was not at all bad so we upgraded it and now have economy, comfort and mobility.    The immediate plan is to head south down the Atlantic coast of France - after seeing the eclipse and return to the UK for Christmas.
