King Charles Spaniel Sanctuary
Information and Volunteer Network
Rescue
I must stress at this stage that we very rarely get any puppies through rescue. The majority of our dogs are older as they have had some sort of medical or behavioural problem, which is why they were probably put into the Sanctuary in the first place, although not always. Please don't let that put you off; it is very rewarding when a dog that has been "through the mill" returns your kindness with devotion and love. Kennel Club papers or pedigree are not transferred to new owners. If you get a dog from the Sanctuary you will be required to sign an adoption form confirming that, if you are unable to keep the Charlie at any time, then it will be returned to the Sanctuary. You will need to answer a few questions before being placed onto the Sanctuary waiting list. The KCS Sanctuary does not operate on a first come first served basis, each dog has its needs assessed and the right home chosen for that dog. As you have read elsewhere on this site we have dogs at the Sanctuary that cannot be re-homed. The rescue Charlie may be with us at the KCS Sanctuary or may still be with their current owners; this will depend on the situation for that Charlie and perhaps their owner. We are unable to tell you how long you will have to wait for a Charlie, because it depends what Charlie comes in, where it is and the reason for re-homing. Just being on the list does not mean that we can guarantee that you will get a rescued King Charles Spaniel. Being able to offer a dog from the KCS Sanctuary does not mean that you will get a free dog; we have to ask that all adoptive owners pay a donation to allow us to continue the work ... which is a 24 hours a day - every day - commitment. Do you have a KCS that needs to be re-homed?
If you have any sort of problem then please contact us, we will try and help you solve them and if those problems cannot be solved then we will make arrangements with you for the dog to be brought to the KCS Sanctuary or for them to go to a new home. Volunteer Network
The biggest problem with collecting Charlies is distance. A great number of people across the country help us collect Charlies in need. and perhaps foster them until they can be found a new home or collected by someone else who will get them nearer or deliver them to the KCS Sanctuary. There can be no payment for this; we simply do not have the funds to pay people petrol or boarding or feeding costs. All we can ask is that you do this out of love for these unfortunate dogs.
If you are still interested then please contact me. (01269 825716). I am afraid that we are unable to consider anyone who is under the age of 18 years.
