Sophia is busy arranging a charity banquet by promising local businessmen dates with her daughter in return for big discounts. Blanche is pleased that her brother Clayton is coming to visit, and he says that he has a big surprise for her. Blanche is convinced that he has met a woman that he wants to marry, but as Dorothy points out, Clayton is gay. Rose has been nominated for the volunteer of the year award at the banquet, and she is convinced that she is going to win now that her rival, Agnes Bradshaw, is dead. Clayton arrives, with Doug. The girls love him, but Blanche is finding it hard to accept that her brother is gay. As the banquet approaches, Dorothy begins to suspect that her mother is up to something, and Rose invites Clayton and Doug to join them at the banquet to see her win the award. Clayton shocks Blanche still further when he announces that he plans to marry Doug. At the banquet, Rose becomes enraged when the dead Agnes wins the award, Dorothy finds out about her mothers deals, and Blanche discovers that Doug is now a part of Clayton's family, and just like anyone else, his wish to marry Doug is just because he loves him and wants to make a puyblic commitment to their life together.

Sophia has lost her glasses and so is using binoculars to watch the TV. BLanche wants Dorothy to help her to trace her family tree so that she can join the Daughters of the Old South. Barbara, a neighbour who is a police-woman, calls by to register the report of the lost glasses. Rose is getting ready for another date with Karl. She feels that he is considerate, as he understands that she still has feelings for Miles, who is in the witness protection programme after ratting on a gangster named "The Cheeseman". As Dorothy and Blanche go through her family history, Dorothy discovers that Blanche has a hidden secret. Her great grand-father was married in Buffalo, to a Feldmann! That makes her a Jewish Yankie! She'll never get into the Daughters of the Old South now. As Rose returns from her date with Karl, Miles appears in his Amish disguise as Samuel Plankmaker. He had to see Rose and can't risk leaving, so he stays the night. As they go to the banquet for the Daughters of the Old South, we discover that Karl is really the Cheeseman, and that he is using Rose to get to Miles. As Blanche reads out her family tree, existing members faint at the news that this candidate came from Buffalo, and the refusal makes Blanche realise that she is an American rather than a southerner. Miles and Karl meet. Rose is flattered, thinking that they are fighting over her. Help arrives when Barbara calls to return Sophia's glasses. Now Miles and Rose are back together.
