"Swift & Sure"
Home of the Cougar!
432 (Woodbridge) Squadron is a long established unit which has shared close bonds with the town of Woodbridge for many years. The cadets are drawn from the local area and share the proud traditions that make 432 Squadron the cadet unit of Woodbridge. The Drill Hall is shared with the Army Cadet Force which boasts a drill hall, three Flight classrooms, two offices, a live range and a mess room. Our Squadron strength is sufficient for three Flights, A, B & C, which Air Cadets are allocated to once they have passed out of the Basic Training Flight! Like our motto, "SWIFT & SURE", the unit takes advantage of the many opportunities on offer within the Corps, proving the cadets enthusiasm, commitment and confidence. These qualities are embodied in our mascot, the Cougar.
The Squadron meets every Wednesday evening between 7.15pm and 9.30pm. During these 'Parade Nights' there is a set training programme scheduled by the Squadron Training Officer. Normally when the evenings are cold and the sun sets earlier the emphasis is on the Air Cadet Syllabus and the Squadron Instructors will train Cadets in aviation related subjects to gain progressive stages of classification. When it is warmer and lighter outside more practical training takes places, including sports and organising the Cadets Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme training. The Squadron also meets on selected Friday evenings to take part in additional training. Weekend training and exercises are common at 432 (Woodbridge) Squadron, so there is every possibility of a weekend 'in the field'!
Woodbridge Air Cadets Take To The Skies!Cadets from 432 (Woodbridge) Sqn had a fantastic finale to their week’s residential summer camp when they were treated to a flight in a Hercules C-130J. They had been staying at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire, along with cadets from other local squadrons, including: Leiston, Wattisham, Sudbury and Great Yarmouth. 27 cadets and 9 members of staff were passengers on a pilot training flight which took them all the way to Northern Ireland via Inverness in Scotland! Cadet Flight Sergeant Michael Reeve said “the trip was amazing, after take off we were allowed to explore the plane and were able to visit the cockpit and talk to the pilots. It was a really clear day and the views were amazing, we saw both Ben Nevis and Snowdon in one morning!” The trip came at the end of a great week’s camp which had also seen cadets experience shooting and gliding, as well as visiting different sections of RAF Lyneham, including the Tactical Medical Wing, who provide aeromedical evacuation of casualties to all 3 Services. Woodbridge Air Cadets parade every Wednesday at The Drill Hall, Quayside from 7pm till 9.30pm and welcomes all young people aged 13 years and over. |
