CHESS COLLECTION OF KEVIN O'CONNELL

More than 10,000 items from one of the world's greatest chess collections will go under the hammer in London, and on the internet, on 7th November.

More than 200 archive boxes contain the collection (4 tons = 4,000kg) put together by Kevin O'Connell from 1965 - 2000. It will be sold in 140 lots.

You can download a file of a complete listing or find the contents of a specific box/lot on the Collection page. The sale Catalogue proper is available from the Catalogue page.

Highlights include a copy of the Tarsia edition of Ruy Lopez, Venice 1584 (lot 5). Probably my own favourites are the autograph items from Lasker (lot 54A), Nimzowitsch (lot 116A), Rinck (lot 11) and Grimshaw (lot 16). Or perhaps a special board, such as the one on which that Polgar-Kasparov game was played in Linares (lot 122) or maybe a set used by Kasparov and Short in their 1993 match (lot 129). Tournament posters, especially those signed by the players, are both decorative and highly-prized (lot 115).

The Chess Philately items and some boards and sets are not included - they will feature in sales next year.
