Some newspaper clippings and letters from some of our marshalling events and charity events
Hi All.
Many thanks to all who helped at the Brighton Bash supporting your club. I personnally had a great time, hard work, but 80,000 riders now know of the Rayleigh Riders. It was estimated that 50,000 bikes were at Brighton.
Please see a letter from Mark Wilsmore of the Ace Cafe, and Compo's story
Hi Roy
Just a few lines which I trust you are able to pass on to your members, which has been prompted by my receiving a telephone call from the Brighton Police Events Office, who stated that - the event was not only the biggest Ace Cafe Reunion yet, but also that they wished to pass on their compliments to us for the best run event in Brighton!
On the day, they only received 4 complaints from the public and all were to do with traffic volume in the town centre, not attributable to us at all, as there were other events going on.
I would also like to thank you all on behalf of Ace Cafe for a brilliant job, well done, and I hope that you can all come back next year!
Kind regards
Mark Wilsmore
COMPO'S STORY
Compo left Brighton at 4pm Sunday.
At 5am Monday morning I got a phone call from his sister, wheres Compo ?, I told her to phone the police. At 6 am I got a phone call from the police, I told them what I knew, description etc, At 8am His dad phoned and said he has had a phone call, compo is under the M25 at the junction of the A12, he had ran out of petrol.
I last heard at 12 noon that he had again run out of petrol at the dome, lower rd,hockley.
His dad told him to push it home. His dad is 83.
Compo rang me at 1245 and said he had just got home, and that he had a big adventure, and he will tell me all about it.
Was I worried or what.
Still it has all turned out ok in the end.
Compo said he went up the M25, missed the A13 ,missed the A127 and ran out of petrol at the A12.
So ends the storey. No money, no food, no drink and 20 hours to get home, and he enjoyed every minute of it.
All the best.
Roy

![]() Cheque this out - Rosie Midson accepts the Rayleigh Riders cheque from Roy Knott.
Little Havens Children's Hospice has bagged charity cash from local Bikers. The Hospices Rosie Midson accepted a £150 cheque from Rayleigh Riders, from club president Roy Knott at Southend Police Station. Roy the leader of the motorcycle club works at the Police Station. He passed on the cash after the Rayleigh Riders received it themselves, as a thank you from a local round table group. "It was given to us after the club acted as Marshals at the Shoebury fireworks display in Gunners Park" Roy explained. Rayleigh Riders supervise events in the area regularly.
Their next outing will be "Southend Shakedown". Set for Easter Monday, the big biking event starts at 9:30 am, when the first of an expected 15,000 riders heads for Southend Seafront. Roy says his team will be in place, marshaling from 9am. More information on the club and the event is available on this web site.
