The
"Proverbs 31" Virtuous Woman:
"She riseth
while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household" v 15

I'm not really a "kitchen person": I'm afraid I don't live up to the Biblical ideal of virtuous womanhood outlined in Proverbs 31: I tend to go in there when I have to (usually to walk past the washing-up pile thinking, "I'll do that later..." hoping that next time I come by it may have miraculously done itself...).
Up-date!
I'm pleased to let you know that at long last, I've "turned over a new leaf"! Mark will testify to the fact that my long-time messy kitchen is looking like a different place - I've even started washing & drying the dishes straight after every meal! (He doesn't know what's hit him!) How come? A chance conversation with another home-maker, in which she mentioned that our homes can be an "altar" to the Lord, with the house-work our "sacrifice": only the best will do! So now I'm really motivated to make changes!
"Whatsoever
ye do, do all to the glory of God"!
I Corinthians 10:31

I did go through a short phase of home-cooking all our food, but I wasn't particularly successful and, my enthusiasm waned... Nevertheless, I do love the idea of cooking, and I collect recipes like they were going out of style, but very few of them actually see the light of day...I have to confess I spend much more time reading them than turning them into tasty dishes! However, I am working on a Recipes page, with a growing (albeit snailpaced) list of my own version of some Swedish Christmas cakettes (that's Little Bears speak for little cakes):-

Some of my favourite recipe books:-
Since both Mark
and I have been vegetarian in the past, we have a collection of
vege recipes which we still enjoy although we do now eat some
meat. My favourite collection is:-
The Complete Vegetarian
Cookbook by Anne
Marshall. We also have some Rose Elliot books.
Paragon produce a whole series of great cookery books: The Best-ever Cook's Collection; I have two or three in the series: Traditional British Cooking, Indian Cooking, but there are several others. You can pick them up quite cheaply (around £4.99) in Woolworths, Tesco's, Boots etc.

I have a long-term love-hate problem relationship with food, which dates back to a troubled teenage. I still have a tendency to feel guilty about whatever I eat, which ends up with me eating all the wrong things...
Incidentally, if you look up the verse above (I Corinthians 10:31), you'll see that it mentions eating specifically. Despite the fact that I know that verse well and try to put it into practice, I haven't been able to crack this problem. It is still one area of my life that I need to let the Lord take charge of.
Recommended Books
"Free to be Slim" by Neva Coyle, is written by a former over-eater who broke free from her bondage to overeating and lost something like 8 stone! Equally useful for anybody who struggles with having a balanced view of food and eating, not just over-eaters. Highly recommended.
"Glorious Food" by Catherine von Ruhland, offers an interesting look at the Christian view of food, celebration and fasting, although I wouldn't recommend it that highly as it's sometimes quite secular in its viewpoints.
I'll be looking for helpful links... Recommendations welcomed.
