Welcome to the
Living Room
Variously
known in our house also as "lounge", "sitting
room", "front room" and, of course, "Yogi's
Lair" (not to mention, of course it's real-life use as a schoolroom...)!
This is where "Mamma Bear" mostly "hangs out" (when I'm not on the computer)!
One of these days I'll get round to pasting in a photo of our lovely 7-seater corner sofa that we bought second-hand in Sweden! It was such a wonderful bargain at 650 kronor - less than £60! (We don't go in for "buy-now- pay-thousands-of-pounds-later-furniture" in this house!) we decided to bring it back to England when we moved, because we'd most likely never have another chance to get one, new or second-hand in this country, let alone at such a good price. It's not too shabby, either, although I'm thinking of trying to re-cover it (any expert advice in that field most welcome!). The only problem we've found, now that we're trying to buy a house of our own, is finding a house with a living room big enough!

The first thing you'll notice when you walk into our Living room is that we don't have a television! You'll see below that I have been a TV-addict in the past, but we talked about getting rid of the TV for years, but just couldn't make the break.... then, when we moved to Milton Keynes, after living here for about a month, the cable was suddenly cut off without warning (we didn't even realise we had cable, since the channels we watch (BBC1 & 2, ITV & Channel 4) are land channels.... but, since Milton Keynes Council have a by-law banning TV-arials, poohf, no channels!
I have to say, it's the best thing that ever happened to us! For a while, we kept it to watch videos on: I kept thinking about all the enjoyment I had from the telly when I was a child, and I didn't want Tommy to miss out; but I really think, in all honesty, that today's television is nothing like as good as it used to be - the 70s was a real golden age of British children's television programmes - and in fact, I personally think that the TV can be a really rather harmful influence to children today. We haven't turned totally "puritan" though, as we let Tommy have a fortnightly trip to Grandma's when he can see videos on her telly!
Our TV now resides in the garage and is for sale!
