Ice Skating

I really love ice skating. I'm not very good at skating myself, although I was given a beautiful pair of white figure skates for Christmas! I've wanted them for years, but couldn't really justify asking for them as I don't go often enough these days. As a teenager, though, I used to go regularly to Richmond skating rink, which is sadly no more (knocked down in favour of flats, I'm told), and to Queensway in London. Tommy has been a couple of times, once to the rink in Hemel Hempstead (which is good as it has a centre island), and once just recently to Planet Ice in Milton Keynes. Unfortunately, though, he's not quite tall enough to reach on to the side and since he can't quite stand up on his own it means that I have to take him round with me, and he'd had enough after about five minutes!

You may be interested to look at Torvill & Dean's homepage at: http://users.aol.com/tanddfanp/

I've always wanted to see "Holiday on Ice" so I'll be looking for a link...

Ice hockey

I got quite interested in Ice Hockey while we where living in Sweden. I haven't been able to find a link to our local team (which I think would have been Djurgården), but the Swedish Ice Hockey Association is at http://www.swehockey.se

Gymnastics

I really love watching gymnastics which I think is beautiful, particularly ladies gymnastics. I'm looking for good links to local/ national groups or interesting fans homepages...

Football

I'm really not a big fan of football - it seems to bring out the worst in people for some reason... but we did get quite interested in following our local team in Sweden: "Värtan". It really was a local team, with people we knew playing in it, and the football pitch was directly behind our third floor flat so when we could watch them practising from our window, and we did go and see them a couple of times. I know they have a homepage, but I haven't been able to find it so far...

The other team I secretly support (because I like the accent, and believe I have roots up there!) is Newcastle United!

Ballet and Dance

I really love watching Ballet (I did go to a lesson once with Gypsy Booth's Dancing School in South Oxhey - my mum gave me choice between Ballet and Tap, Horseriding and Piano! I looked at Ballet and decided it wasn't for me, and ending up taking piano lessons... which is a shame because I don't seem to have been particularly musical!) I went with Mark to see Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House, and with his mum to see the Nutcracker at St. Albans.

There's an interesting History of Ballet here: http://bvsd.k12.co.us/~hamiltol/ballet/history.html

I'm still looking for other dance links. Here's what I've found so far:

If you're interested in Ballroom, here's the US Ballroom Dancers Federation: http://www.bdf.org/

And for Country Dance, here's the Country Dance and Song Society: http://www.cdss.org/
