1st Walnut Tree Brownies

Who we are

1st Walnut Tree Brownie pack is part of the Walton District of the Milton Keynes Division of the Guiding Association. Our pack currently has a 30 strong complement of girls, with a one year+ waiting list. Our group also has a new Guide Patrol, and we are hoping to set up a Rainbow group soon.

We have a Guider (or Leader), Brown Owl: currently on leave, and the temporary Guider (Little Owl). We also have two unit helpers: Barn Owl and Tawny Owl. The leadership is voluntary, but the Guiding Association provides training.

What is guiding all about?

The Guiding Association is the sister movement to the Scouting Association. For more information, see our local Cub Scout Pack page

"Guiding is a game...with a purpose"

The Brownie Guide Promise:
"I promise that I will do my best: To love my God, To serve the Queen and my country, To help other people and To keep the Brownie Guide Law"

The Brownie Guide Law:
A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a Good Turn every day.

The Brownie Guide Motto:
"Lend a hand"

What do we do?

We play all sorts of games including quiet thoughtful games and quizzes as well as loud and energetic running around games!

As well as games, though, we work for badges (the Brownie Badge book covers everything from Artist to World Traveller!) We also follow an eight-point programme:

Brownies [1] are friendly, [2] keep healthy, [3] lend a hand, [4] do their best, [5] are wide awake, [6] help at home, [7] have fun outdoors and [8]make things.

The girls have three 'journeys' and challenges (footpath, road and highway) covering each of the eight areas to complete over their three year stay in Brownies before they hopefully go up to Guides at age 10.

Programme

Our Spring term programme has mainly consisted of badge work while Brown Owl has been away. Most recently we have been working on our Safety in the Home badge, and we are now starting our Crime Prevention badge.

Inbetween working on our badges, we have had themed evenings including Snow, Thinking Day, St. David's Day and, yet to come: St. Patrick's Day and, our last meeting of term party theme will be: The Seaside!
