The Friends of St. James' was formed in early 1999 with the object of helping to provide funds for the preservation of the church and for the maintenance of the churchyard.

Careful management over the years has enabled the church to be kept in good condition, and close examination of the fabric will reveal the evolution of the building, but changes and improvements are always needed. A recent survey of the stained glass windows and leaded lights revealed damage to both glass and stonework which will need attention in the near future.

The church stands as a focal point to the village. It has been lovingly cared for by successive generations and we have a duty to preserve it and hand it on to our successors.

During the past year a church survey revealed that both interior and exterior stone work requires re-pointing at a cost of over £2,000. An overhaul of the Dugdale family grave enclosure and the planting of a tree in the Church yard to mark the Millenium are also planned later this Spring. The cost of all of these will be met by the Friends.
