ASK anyone to name a character from the world of sci-fi and you can pretty much guarantee that Darth Vader will be near the top of the pile. Dave Prowse is known across the world to millions of fans as the man behind Darth Vader, the central figure in all the Star Wars films. Dave, who has been in more than 20 movies, played Vader in all three of the original Star Wars films. He was awarded the MBE by the Queen in the New Year's Honours list after his service as The Green Cross Code Man in the 1970s, when he raised awareness of road traffic safety. But Dave wasn't always an actor, for a time he was a champion body-builder and competed in Mr Universe in 1960 before the film world beckoned. During that career Dave was British heavyweight weight lifting champion from 1962-64 and Highland games champion in 1970. And he was appointed special ambassador for the international decade of the disabled person from 1983-1992 by President Reagan. Since that time he has appeared in several major films, including A Clockwork Orange, he trained Christopher Reeve to get in shape for his role in Superman and has even been in a Carry On film! His list of films is as follows: Casino Royale (Bond) (1967) The Portrait of Brenda (1968) Hammerhead (1968) Crossplot
(1969) Carry
On Henry VIII (1971) Vampire Circus (1971) Blacksnake!
