GAMES!! STAR WARS EPISODE ONE THE PHANTOM MENACE For far too long there's been a distinct lack of lightsabres in games - until now that is. From the moment Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan fight off deadly gas and Battle Droids the swish of the sabres is apparant. The basic premise here is unsurprisingly similar to the film, and soon you're left wandering down different corridors on the Trade Federation's Battle Ship trying to find a way out. Graphics here are ultra-smooth and the sets are stunning as you move from the Battle Ship to Naboo's swamp, Theed Palace and the underwater Otoh Gunga. From there it's a quick ride to Tatooine to face the fearsome Tusken Raiders and then to the magnificent Coruscant. There's plenty of interaction between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon as the latter gets inpatient with the former (that's if you hang around anyway). Drama is never far away here and while this is similar to others such as Jedi Knight, the smoothness and just plain coolness of its characters sets it apart from the rest. The other advantage this has is obviously it's connected to a whole new world and a bunch of people we're desperate to know more about. Lucas isn't in the habit of making bad games - and he isn't about to start with this one.
