The Swillers have known each other since the early 80's when they met as members of the MVSA at Butser Hill. They have all drifted in and out of the Hobby during the years but in 1997 they were all flying again at competition level and started going to competitions together. Intially they were known by various names such as 'Meon Valley A Team', 'Meon Valley B Team' (after a particularly embarassing display at Dartmoor), and 'Those Idiots over There'.
The title 'Team Swillers' was eventually bestowed on them by Keith Nicholls when they entered VR98. Keith was not prepared to accept any of their own suggestions as there would be women and children present so he came up with a name he considered appropriate for their approach to the sport. For this and various other incidents Keith is rightly known as 'The Fourth Swiller'.
Karl Pashley - the Bar Steward
Karl's main duty on on away trips is to keep the team stocked up with liquid refreshments, a job he takes very seriously and is ideally suited for, hence the title.
His other nickname is the 'One Eyed Bastard' as he has a glass eye. If you ask him nicely he will show it to you, if you don't ask him nicley he will put it in your beer. If you don't believe me, ask Kevin Newton about the incident at the Hole of Horcum a couple of years ago.
Karl recently moved to Fareham and manages a Magnet store. His other hobbies include drinking and smoking.
Ken Woodhouse - the Driver
Ken's main role is that of Driver. This is an ideal role for him as during the day he is a Used Car Salesman. He will tell that he is a Motor Trader but we have never been establish the distinction between the two jobs
Ken's other main claim to fame is that he appears to have owned more moulded models than anyone else as he is always looking for that extra bit of competitive edge. If you want an opinion on the merits if of a particular moulded model, give Ken a ring, the chances are he owns one or has owned one in the recent past
Ken's other hobbies also include drinking and smoking
Mark Passingham - the Navigator
Mark is the Navigator. The other two jobs had gone so rather than be left out he looked out the road atlas on a trip to the Hole of Horcum and becam the Navigator. Surprisingly enough the Swillers usually manage to find most venues and usually arrive on the right day. He is also known as the 'Bald Git'.
Mark also builds his own F3F models in the mistaken belief that one day he will come up with the ultimate design. The others have tried to discourage him by giving his models silly names like 'Lovebug', 'Big Stiffy, 'Big Stonker' and 'Master-Baiter' but this only seems to drive him on. He is currently talking about making his own moulded model.
Mark's other hobbies include fishing and not smoking.
Keith
Nicholls - the 4th Swiller
Keith Nicholls, aka the 4th Swiller. Keith is Welsh - it's not his fault - and runs his own bed manufacturing business near Cardiff. Keith likes a drink and after a few bevvies he and Mark can be heard from miles around murdering Tom Jones classics such as 'Delilah', 'Green Green Grass of Home' and 'It's Not Unusual'. He was bribed into running the 1999-2000 Winter League by the rest of the Swillers one Sunday afternoon in the pub on the promise of large amounts of alcohol to follow.
