Ladies who take 'gentlemen' are quite a race apart
They face their duties bravely, because the're big of heart
Their task is not an easy one to steer their partner through
The range of complicated steps, a couple has to do.
They put their best foot forward (their partner steps to rear)
They allemande their lady with a flourish, never fear
They may not wear a bow tie, or ruffled evening shirt
But guide their partner well, they do, through wearing flowered skirt.
They have to face some problems that gentlemen do not
For instance, when progressive, and getting rather hot
It's time to change your partner and you come out in a whirl,
To find you started gentleman and finished up as girl.
Another time you and your friend go to a dance
You're getting on quite nicely, not expecting that by chance
A man will ask you for a dance and suddenly you find
You've got to do the lady's steps, which you cannot bring to mind.
So, ladies who take 'gentlemen', don't give up or back pedal
Keep up the good work, because you all deserve a medal
I dedicate this poem to three such ladies here =
To Peggy, Janet and Iris we raise a hearty cheer.
