Some of you may not know that we have a Club song. I wrote the lyrics in the early months of 1989 with a little assistance. The song was inspired by The Lumberjack Song , from Monty Python's Flying Circus, a programme which transformed the face of British television humour in the early 1970s when our Club began, with its inspired lunacy, surreal comedy and animated graphics.

The Club Song was first performed at the Chiddingly Folk Camp, East Sussex , May 26-30 1989 with a second rendition, especially tailored for the British Legion 44th Birthday Supper, on 4th July 1989, and very occasionally since then. I wonder why!

We love our Tuesday evenings
In British Legion Hall

We love our promenading

We dance to Levi Jackson's Rag
And Taylor's Northern Lights
We sometimes do the Durham Reel
And Devil's Dream most nights

We're spoilt for choice with Erics
All three are very fine
There's Manning, Böesch and Probert
They keep us all in line

We have a special motto
We'd like to share with you
That dancing is enjoyment
