About the Church

Evangelical Free
Church A Congregational Church at Stony
Stratford, Buckinghamshire was founded in 1808, the current building established here in 1823 and since then has sought to maintain a
true evangelical witness.
Why the change of
name? In 1985 the name of the Church was changed to make clearer to
the people of Stony and the surrounding area of Milton Keynes and
South East Northamptonshire that evangelical emphasis.
Why
Evangelical? To signify that our primary concern is for ‘the
evangel’, ‘the gospel’, ‘the good news’ which God has for
mankind.
Why Free? To show that we
are not bound by any denominational ties. We are an independent
church but we are happy to be in fellowship with other like-minded
churches regardless of denomination. We are affiliated to the Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches (E.F.C.C.).
Why Church? According to
the Bible a Church is a company of ordinary people united by a
common faith in the living God and by a common love for Him and for
His Son Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Why this introduction and
welcome? Because we firmly believe that the Gospel is the
only answer to man’s spiritual blindness and moral weakness. We
believe the Bible to be God’s inspired and infallible Word to man.
It’s message is that all men are sinners who deserve God’s righteous
judgement. But God has shown us His love by sending into the world
His beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for
our sins. "Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal
life". God raised Him from the dead and He is alive for evermore.
All who put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ are freely forgiven
and accepted as children of God.
