Basis of Faith

1. The full and verbal inspiration of all the Old Testament and New Testament Scriptures as originally given, and these alone; their being in themselves the Word of God, without error, and wholly reliable in both fact and doctrine; their final authority and perpetual sufficiency in all matters of faith and practice. 2 Tim. 3:15-17 and 1 Peter 1:20-21.

2. The unity of the Godhead and the divine co-equality of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; the sovereignty of God in creation, providence, and redemption. Matt. 3:15-17, John 10:30 and 14:26, 2 Cor.13:14.

3. The personality of the Devil who actively opposes the work of God. Job 1:6-7 and John 8:44.

4. The total depravity of human nature in consequence of the fall, and the necessity for regeneration. Eph. 2:1-5 and Rom. 5:12.

5. The true and proper deity of our Lord Jesus Christ; His virgin birth; His real and perfect manhood; the authority of His teaching, and the infallibility of all His utterances; His work of atonement for sinners of mankind by His substitutionary sufferings and death; His bodily resurrection and ascension into Heaven; and His present priestly intercession for His people at the right hand of the Father. Luke 1:26-35, Matt.16:16, Heb. 7:26, 2 Cor. 5:15, 1 Pet. 1:19 and Rom. 8:34.

6. The justification of the sinner solely by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Rom.3:23-24 and 5:1, and Eph. 2:8-9.

7. The work of the Holy Spirit as essential for a true and spiritual understanding of the Scriptures; for regeneration, conversion, and sanctification, and for ministry and worship. John 3:3,8 and Rom. 8:9-11. 8. That all those who are spiritually united to Christ through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit are eternally secure in Him. John 10:28 and Rom. 8:1.

9. The true church existing world-wide being a spiritual body of which Christ is head comprising all those redeemed by the blood of Christ, called by God through the Gospel, born of the Spirit and justified by faith; the local church being a visible expression of the church world-wide in a particular locality. 1 Cor. 5:4, Eph. 4:4-6 and Heb. 10:24-25.

10. The responsibility of believers to live holy lives in true regard of their relationship to the Lord and the church. 1 Cor. 6:8-20, Col. 3:12-17 and Heb.10:24-25.

11. The ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper as being instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ, but not in Baptism as conveying regenerating grace, nor in the Lord's Supper as being a sacrifice for sin or involving any change in the substance of the bread and wine. Matt. 28:19, Luke 22:19-20 and 1 Cor. 11:23-26.

12. The personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ in glory. Acts 1:11 and Matt. 24:30.

13. The resurrection of the body; the judgement of believers resulting in their eternal blessedness; the judgement of unbelievers resulting in their eternal punishment and exclusion from the presence of God. Matt. 25:34, 46, John 5:22, Rom. 14:10, 1 Thess. 4:16, 2 Thess 1:9, Rev. 20:11-12.
