THE ATLANTIC STAR

This star was awarded in the Royal Navy for six months' service afloat between 3rd. September 1939 and 8 May 1945 in the Atlantic or home waters, and to personnel employed in the convoys to North Russia and the South Atlantic. Merchant Navy personnel also qualified, as did RAF and Army (air crews and maritime gunners) who served afloat. Entitlement to the France and Germany or Air Crew Europe Stars was denoted by bars to that effect, if the Atlantic Star was previously awarded.

DESCRIPTION

A six-pointed star. 1.5 inches

OBVERSE

The star has a circular centre with the GRI/VI monogram, surmounted by a crown and inscribed THE ATLANTIC STAR round the foot.

REVERSE

Plain

MOUNTING

A small ring at the top of the cross through which a larger ring passes.

RIBBON

The shaded and watered ribbon consists of three equal stripes; blue, white, and sea-green, to represent the Atlantic Ocean.
