Do-It-Yourself Medal Framing.
Putting it all together - The Frame - Part 1
1. Produce the Inner Frame to accomodate the size of the Frame Back.
2. Produce the Outer Frame to fit snugly over the Inner Frame.
3. Cut the Frame Back to size - ensuring a close fit to the Inner Frame.
4. Cut the Strut to size - It should measure from the base of the Outer Frame to just above the centre of the Frame Back.
5. Drill the holes for the Strut fixing and attach the Clip and Bar - The top of the clip should be 7/16 inch below the top of the strut and the bar holes should be chamferred to allow a flush fit for the legs of the rivits.

6. Cut a piece of 2mm float glass to fit the Outer Frame.
7. Cover the sides of the outer frame with masking tape in preparation to spray the back with matt black paint. (tip - the spray paint will not cover edges of MDF effectively so we hand paint the edges of both the Frame Back and the Strut with blackboard paint) .
8. Dry assemble the frame as per the diagram above. (at this stage the velveteen is not in position - and the brassware is equally absent).
9. Spray the back of the frame with matt black spray - try to keep the dog, cat, kids etc away while you are completing this stage. NB. We now stain the backs with a spirit stain - quick drying and a lot more easy to use.
