EARTH LEAKAGE LEAK DETECTOR
Uses:
i. Location of penetrations in waterproofing membranes
ii. Integrity proving of waterproofing membranes.
Applications:
Any flat or low-pitched structure using a non-conductive waterproofing membrane,
whether exposed or ballasted (loose stone, paving slabs, landscaped).
Operation:
A charged loop (freely laid around the area to be tested, with the area liberally
wetted) carries a very low voltage pulse from a signal generator. Currents flowing
to earth indicate the presence of penetrations in the waterproofing membrane,
through which conductive moisture is moving.
A small, hand held, meter (not shown below), in contact with the wetted
upper surface of the structure via two extended probes, measures the direction of
the currents tracking across the upper surface towards the waterproofing
membrane penetration(s).
Defects:
Any size of penetration through which moisture moves, down to 'invisible'
pin-pricks, including defective seams. NB: this technique is not affected by ponded
water lying beneath the waterproofing.
