Engines

On 9 August 2009, our Rolls-Royce Merlin engine was put through its paces with a engine run (this being the first time after 7 years restoration and 68 years since its last flight). This engine generated 2800 rpm, typical output for a Hurricane taking off.

Gerry, one of our volunteers, is also undertaking the restoration of a Bristol Hercules engine. This engine was fitted to Elizabethan, Varsity and other aircraft. This is a massive air-cooled radial engine, similar to the Pratt and Whitney engine that was fitted in the B-17. If anybody can get this engine to run, Gerry can!!
