The Sigma BC1200 is a bike computer. So why put it in a Caterham? Simple - the standard speedo is inaccurate (ditto for the odometer) unless you happen to have a lucky combination of wheel and tyre sizes. And that's bad news if you are on a limited mileage insurance policy like we are at AR7E.

The std. speedo is also not close to the line-of-sight (LOS) of the driver (baaad news when 'pressing on') - but the Sigma can be mounted in a much better location. It also does whizzy things the std. speedo can't.

Key Benefits

  • Can easily be calibrated to your *exact* wheelsize - 'totally' accurate.
  • Valid as an odometer/speedometer for MOT purposes
  • Works at racing speeds - certainly well over 100mph - or so I've heard ;-}
  • Has whizzy extra functions such as max speed, average speed, trip-distance (or countdown distance for navigational purposes). Also has a stopwatch for Fish Hill - and a clock! In a 7! Luxury.
  • Mountable in LOS - you can safely fiddle with the stopwatch etc. whilst 'making progress' up Fish Hill.

Key Drawbacks

  • Needs a tiny amount of work to install (mainly due to requirement to extend the sensor lead to the front wheel)
  • Does not illuminate at night - but people are working on this one as we speak...
