Our cars are occasionally stored outside overnight - so car covers are an obvious requirement. Our choice is the Cover Systems outdoor car cover. <Click Image for Full Size> This is a lightweight, waterproof and breathable cover designed for the 7. It packs down into its own holdall and includes an undercar strap to help secure it in windy conditions* (See update at bottom of page...) The cover is a snug fit in places - although it billows around a bit in the wind (helps ventilation and drying), we've never had any problems with it coming adrift. The cover *is* waterproof - but the manufacturers do point out that you might get some wicking where the cover is in direct contact with the car (e.g. the roll bar). Despite what others may claim, this is a direct consequence of the need for the cover to be breathable - and has caused no problems so far - in fact, heavy rain tends to pool between the roll bar and windscreen and needs to be tipped out before removing the cover. Cost was just under 100 quid - compares very favourably with rivals at both ends of the spectrum. InstallationOK - it's not hard to work out how to put a cover on, but there *is* a knack to doing it - so look here Car Cover Installation Update Feb '04With the extreme winds of winter, we've been forced to add extra straps to secure the cover. On one or two occasions, the cover *has* made a bid for freedom - and was only saved by the underbody strap and helpful neighbours... The cover does have four loops - one in each corner - for extra straps, and we purchased two long nylon straps with hefty metal friction buckles. The intention was to pass a strap between a pair of loops, and to pass the strap through part of the suspension - so that the cover is truly secure. This has worked a treat - even in really extreme winds - but has also resulted in our first disappointment relating to the Coversystems cover... ...one of the loops pulled off during the first attempt to pass the strap through it... We've not had a problem with any of the others and will probably just repair this one ourselves rather than send the whole thing back... |
