To cut a long story short, we were looking for an economical aeroscreen to cut down the weight and drag and improve visibility. There are various expensive carbon-fibre offerings on the market - but no one has offered us one to try... ...so out comes the wallet - and through the post (from a mystery supplier...) arrived a JPE-style perspex screen. <Click Images for Full Size> In addition to the screen, we obviously needed some appropriate mirrors. We chose SPA as our supplier - having been suitably impressed by the SPA Dual Oil/Oil Gauge Installation was, to be honest, a bit of a nightmare - but the results are fantastic. Visibility is vastly improved (especially at night) and the top speed (and presumably acceleration) have noticeably - but not dramatically been enhanced. The only major downsides/issues relate to the vastly increased wind-noise (mainly due to buffeting from the center mirror, we believe) and the general hair-rearrangement problem. After three weeks of driving with just sports sunglasses (think Oakley M-Frames) and ear-defenders (which tend to peel off at speed unfortunately), we invested in Arai GP5K race helmets (expensive at 420 pounds +VAT at list, but the no other manufacturer/model appeared to fit). Two 300-mile round trips have convinced us that a helmet is probably the way to go - especially if the weather is bad. Buffeting wind noise is almost non-existent and we can now hear the engine properly again. We'll probably keep our hair longer as well... So, overall, a success. Highly recommended - but take a look at our installation page - we made mistakes so that you don't have to... |
