We won't go into full details of fitting the cigar socket here (suffice to say that you'll need to buy a 'naked' socket (e.g. from Halfords), make a small aluminium right-angle bracket, rivet/attach this to the upper-left area of the passenger-side bulkhead, terminate the earth on the chassis, terminate the live lead through an unswitched, fused connection on the fuse box... Easy.) <Click Image for Full Size> If you need more than one power source (e.g. for that GPS nestling in the corner of the windscreen), consider either adding another lighter socket (Doh!) or a cheap 4-way power-socket extender. Note that you might not have room to fit one of these if you have a heater unit - you need sufficient space to be able to plug new power leads in... Halfords do a cheap 4-way - but the plug head is not a good fit and needs tie-wrapping onto the socket for a reliable connection. This unit does have an illuminated push-switch though... You have already seen this unit in the picture above... |
