So, what do you need to do a proper job when fitting a SPA dual Oil/Oil gauge?

SPA supplied parts

SPA include the following 'out of the box':

  1. The gauge...
  2. An Oil Temp (OT) sensor - 1/8 NPT tapered thread
  3. A new Oil Pressure (OP) sensor - 1/8 BSP thread
  4. Wiring loom including remote switch for gauge.

You will need:

For oil change:

  1. At least 6.5 litres of fully synthetic oil (we recommend Halfords 5W40 - it is a rebadged version of the official Caterham oil - 'Comma 5W40')
  2. New oil filter - YMMV, but the standard Rover 25 1.6 k-series filter fitted our Caterham RMK filter housing.
  3. Drain can, tools etc.

For remote OP sensor hose assembly:

  1. 300mm of steel braided oil hose (e.g. 'tfe hose -3')
  2. Two female 1/8 BSP to hose connectors (check compatibility with SPA OP sensor)
  3. One (ha!) male-male 1/8 BSP to XYZ connector (XYZ being M12x1.5 in our case - but YMMV and it could also be 1/8 BSP or 1/8NPT...)
  4. PTFE tape (for sealing tapered threads in particular) - you can get this from any general plumbing store (e.g. B&Q)
  5. Mylomar sealant (from e.g. Halfords) - this is blue gunk in a tube.
  6. Tie-wraps galore.
