Headlamps. Not the most efficient beasts on the 7. First port of call is to upgrade the bulbs and the current flavour of the month are the Phillips Bluevision devices. These are direct replacements for the standard bulbs (H4 fitting for the main/dips, if you're interested) and are supposed to give a whiter, crisper light. They are fine - but AR7E will test out the Phillips VisionPlus shortly. These are designed to give upto 50% more light on the road whilst still being road-legal and available in standard fittings. We recommend sourcing them from Powerbulbs - they have been running an offer of free BlueVision sidelamp bulbs and are the cheapest supplier found so far (less than 20 quid inc. P&P/VAT/Shipping for both BlueVision and VisionPlus) TipDon't touch the bulb glass when installing any halogen lamps - some of the AR7E crew learnt during their physics degrees that the grease on your skin radiates thermal energy in an unhelpful way and will seriously reduce bulb life. Driving Etiquette7's are small and fast - and dark (AR7E's livery is ace-of-spades black). Be seen. It is perfectly acceptable to drive with your dipped beams on at all times (sidelamps are pitifully weak and don't even show up well in dusk/dark). In fact, we understand that 'Roadcraft' - the police advanced driving guide/manual - recommends dipped beams at all times unless in bright sunlight. AR7E have tested the annoyance factor with other 7's - and despite being much lower (and hence more in line with the beam) than drivers of jellymobiles (aka tintops), they seem perfectly comfortable. |
